Once i've gotten the proportions and pose in the ballpark, I start using the triangle wire tool [in scraps] to start shaving down the legs in small flat planes. Often I have to readjust the armature with a small pair of needle nose pliers to center it in the sculpt. I also use a small blade [like an exacto] to cut away areas [like under the heel] cleanly without disturbing the rest of the sculpt.
